Mau Mau is a highly popular card game played all around the world like the United States, Brazil, Poland, Germany, Austria, and the list goes on. Classic Mau Mau is very simple and easy to play so it only made sense that we convert this game into a fun party and drinking game.

For Mau Mau drinking game we have adopted and simply expanded the classic rules with additional rules for drinking. So not only will you have fun with Mau Mau, but you can also catch a buzz making the game that much more fun to play.

Mau Mau Game Rules

Begin by shuffling the deck of cards thoroughly, and if there are more than 5 players it would be beneficial to add a second deck of cards to the mix.

Deal out 5 cards to each player and the remaining cards are placed face down on the table in a pile, the dealer reveals the first card. The player to his left starts the game.

The aim of the game is to get rid of all of your cards. If it is your turn, you can discard a card from your hand to match the card most recently flipped over or dropped by another player (same color or same card value). If you do not have a card that is the same color or card value in your hand then you must draw a card from the facedown cards pile.

In addition, different cards have their own rules. You should agree on these rules before the game so that there are no discussions later.

Mau Mau Card Rules

7 – The next player must draw 2 cards and drink 2 sips. Seven can be extended, so if another seven comes up after the initial seven then next person has to drink 4 sips and draw 4 cards, and so on until the last card dropped wasn’t a seven.

8 – The next player must draw 1 card and drink 1 sip.

9 – change the direction in which the game is being played (clockwise or counterclockwise).

Jack – The player gets to choose the color for the next card. In addition, he chooses a player who now has to drink.

Queen – All women drink.

King – All men drink.

Ace – All players except yourself must drink. The next player misses their turn.

The best things in life are simple and this can be applied to many different areas of life. Wrapping yourself in a warm blanket on a cold day when it is snowing, reading a good book, free food, are some of those simple things that cost nothing but give us a great experience.

For this game, we kept that fact in mind and wanted to show that when it comes to party games, you don’t need to spent lots of money on board games or other materials which will eventually collect dust in the closet. You want a simple game that is fun? “yes, no, maybe” is a great drinking game without cards or any other materials.

Yes No Maybe Game Setup

Before you begin have all players sit in a circle and place whatever you’re drinking in the middle of the circle. You might also want to decide how many drinks a person takes for messing up. Then a player is chosen who will begin answering the questions asked by others. You can either start with the youngest / oldest player, roll some dice, or some other way.

Yes No Maybe Game Rules

Once you have a player that will start, this person will be asked questions by others in the circle. Before the question-and-answer session starts, the stopwatch is set to one minute. As long as the stopwatch is running, the player must now answer the questions of the other players. You can ask any questions you want of the player and all questions must be answered. However, it is forbidden to use the three words “yes”, “no” and “maybe” in the answers. If any answer contains one of these three words, then the player must drink the amount of alcohol agreed upon before the game began. It is also forbidden to answer every answer the same. So saying “I did it” twice in a row is forbidden and the player must drink if they repeat an answer like this. Once the minute is over, it is the next player’s turn going clockwise and now they must face the questions of everyone in the circle.

Although the game seems very simple it will not be the case when the drinks are flowing and your concentration isn’t at its best, so not saying the forbidden words becomes very hard since “yes”, “no” and “maybe” are used very often in everyday language. The more you drink during the game the harder it becomes to not mess up and drink more so as the game goes on it becomes more fun to play.

I’m Going to the Bar Drinking Game Rules

Fill all the shot glasses and give one to every person. The game begins with one person saying something like “I’m going to the bar and I need a Heineken”. Now the next player has to say the same thing, but has to add on another drink such as “I’m going to the bar and I need a Heineken and Brandy”. This continues until someone cannot think of something or gets the list of alcoholic beverages already mentioned wrong, they then have to take their shot.

How to Play Medusa Drinking Game & Rules

Pour a lot of shot glasses and place them in the middle of the table. Now everyone puts their head down and on the count of three, everybody raises their head and stares at another person on the table. If you stare at somebody who isn’t looking at you then your safe, however if you are staring at somebody else’s eyes then you must yell “Medusa” and take a shot - the same applies to the other person. Continue this until all the shots in the middle are gone.

Taboo Drinking Game Rules & How to Play

Before guests arrive, write down a couple of common actions, words, and phrases on index cards – enough for everyone coming. These should be things that are bound to be done or said a few times throughout the night, not every other word like “the”. Every time a person hears words, phrases, or sees somebody do an action that was assigned to them they yell “Taboo” and that person drinks.

Get creative with the ideas, some fun examples include:

This game can be played throughout the night and can be included in with other games being played.

Top Card Drinking Game Rules & How to Play

Start the game by dealing everyone eight cards, you can use as many decks as you need to. The rest of the cards go in the middle of the table. Someone starts by flipping one card from the top of the deck that is at the center of the table. The first player begins by laying down cards that add up or match that numerical value, for example, let’s say you flip a seven so the first player would have to either put down a seven, five and two, or four and three… You get the idea – they can use as many cards as they need to match it. They then place those cards on top of the deck in any way they want, so they can determine which card comes up next. If they cannot match the card then they must drink and pick up two cards from the deck.

The next player has to match the new top card, if they can do this using fewer cards compared to the person before them then they can choose a person to drink and the same person or another person to pick up two cards from the deck.

The goal of this game is to get rid of all your cards before everyone else. The winner gets to give out three drinks – they can give them all to one person or split them up.

Go Fish Drinking Game Rules & How to Play

Everyone gets 5 cards. The rest of the cards are spread out in the middle of the table. You are able to play with multiple decks if you must. First player goes fishing (picks a card out of the deck) and flips it up.

Everyone must immediately lay down a card higher or identical . If they are unable to do so, they may pick up one card from the fish pond. They must play the card they picked up, if not they need to drink. The last man that either lays down their card or drinks must drink two times. All the cards played are then mixed back into the fish pond. The highest card laid down begins the next round.

If a player lays down a KING then before the next round begins, everyone must pass their whole hand to their right.

First player to drop all their cards wins! They may give out 4 drinks to whoever they want.

Asshole Drinking Game Rules & How to Play

The game begins with deciding who the President, Vice President, Normal People, and Asshole are for the next round.

Begin by dealing 6 or 7 cards to each player, you can deal more or less depending on how many people are playing. The cards are ranked according to the following (most powerful to least powerful):

2, A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, and 3

One person goes first by playing any card, then the next person has two options:

  1. To play any card higher, but not the same
  2. Or pass on their turn

Example: If the first player drops a 4 then the next player must drop a card that is higher than a 4, then the next player has to play a card higher than that card. Once all players pass, or when someone drops a 2 (the most powerful card) then a new hand begins. The person who dropped the last card begins the new hand.

This keeps going on until everyone has gotten rid of their cards. The person who drops all their cards first is the President for the next round, the next one to drop all their cards is the Vice President, whoever drops their cards after the Vice President are normal, and the one who drops their cards last is the Asshole.

Whoever is leading, or going first, can drop any two identical cards such as two 5’s, the next person must play two identical cards that are HIGHER than five but cannot drop one or three cards, only two identical cards higher than 5’s. The same applies if the leading person drops three or four identical cards, if nobody can match these then the leading person continues to drop cards until someone can beat them or a two is dropped, which beats everything else, and the hand ends followed with a new lead.

Asshole Drinking Game Roles

President: Can give out drinks to anyone at any time. Nobody can make the president drink but the President. President gets to start each round and should never have to refill their own drink.

Vice President: Similar to President, can give out drinks to anyone at any time (except for the President). Only the president or the vice president can make the Vice President drink. The vice president is second each round (after the president).

Normal People: Normal people can make each other drink and the Asshole. They play in turn according to the order they finished in the previous round. First normal out after the Vice President is third to act, second normal out is fourth to act, etc.

Asshole: This player is truly the Asshole. They must deal the cards, sweep the cards after a hand, and can’t make anyone drink. Asshole plays last in each round.

A few recommendations, at the end of each round, the players should move seats in order to reflect the hierachy, and proper playing order. Play your lowest cards first. Abuse the power when Pres or VP, but remember it will always come back to haunt you, especially when abusing the Asshole.

Some Tips: At the end of each round all players should move seats to reflect the order in which they will act (president, vice president, first normal, second normal, etc). You should try to play your lowest cards first, and abuse your powers if you are President or Vice President, but remember not to make too many enemies as it will come back to bite you in the ass.

You may play as many rounds as you like!

How to Play Beer Pot & Game Rules

All players sit in a circle. Each player contributes one beer to the pot. One player starts drinking from the pot. This person can drink as much or little as s/he chooses. When done, the pot passes to the next player who does the same thing. The person who empties the pot is the winner. The person who drinks immediately before the winner is the loser.

The loser must then put a beer in the pot for each of the players; then play starts again. Or a variation is that the loser puts in two beers, the winner zero, and everybody else puts in one.

This is also a great game to be played in bars. Buy a big pitcher of beer. Pass it around. The loser buys the next pitcher.

It is important that the pot/pitcher is big – it makes it harder to judge the amount of beer remaining.

How to Play Brain Damage Drinking Game

You’ll need a deck of cards with all 8s, 9s and the red 10 tens removed, people, and the ever-important beer. The buzz factor starts out low, but with lots of people, dealing last can be dangerous at best.

Brain Damage Card Ranks

The game is played just like Blackjack but to 7.5 points. First, lay out all cards face down, everyone “cuts for deal”. Highest card deals first (10 would be 7.5, 7 is very good). Deal will go from highest draw to lowest. Very important: you cannot leave the game until after you have dealt. That’s why dealing first is great, dealing last has been known to result in “Brain Damage”. Dealer takes the deck, deals one card face down to first player, one card face down to self. Player looks at card, then bets any amount of beer, a large shot glass is usually a good limit. Player keeps first card face down, and can take as many hits as he wants. If he goes over 7.5, he must announce that fact, and then drink the bet. If not, when he stops, dealer turns over his card, and then hits until he thinks he has the player beat. If dealer busts, he drinks the bet.

When the dealer is satisfied with his hand, the player turns over his card. Lower total drinks. Ties mean player drinks. The dealer then goes to the next player, repeating the process until the deck is exhausted. If the player gets a “five card charlie” (5 cards, not busted), he wins immediately, dealer cannot draw, dealer loses even with a 10 in hand. If player draws to 7.5, dealer can of course try to tie (win).

If the dealer begins dealing begins with six or less cards, the penalty is to deal again. WIth six or less cards, dealer lays them face down, the player bets, they both draw a card, loser drinks (tie == player drinks). Play continues until everyone has dealt.
